Over 125 homeless animals will spend Christmas in cages at the Humane Society. We are trying to make their Christmas special. Petco and Pet Supermarket are sponsoring a Tree of Hope. We are asking people to pick a card off the tree with an animal's name on it and buy that animal a gift. Gifts can be left in donation boxes at each of the stores, or brought directly to the shelter. Monetary donations can be mailed to the shelter, Humane Society, 7321 Haywood Taylor Blvd., Sebring, FL. 33870. Location is on Haywood Taylor Boulevard, near the Sebring Airport. ...more

SEBRING –– Visit Highlands County Animal Services today and you'll find two peacocks in a dog pen. You can also see two large hogs in a horse trailer. Plus four rabbits, huddled together in the corner of a wire dog crate. And then Darryl Scott, Animal Control director, can walk you past the dog and cat pens to see the two yearling cows he's holding in a small, wood fenced pen. "Just last week, we had chickens and ducks, too," Scott said. "We were able to get them out, by adoption." ...more
