NATION Delta Mum On Mergers Delta Air Lines officials were mum Friday on the outcome of a board meeting at which executives could get the green light to enter formal talks with two competitors about a combination. Asked whether the meeting in New York had been completed, board member Walter Massey responded, "I can't talk about that." He then hung up the phone. Atlanta-based Delta declined to comment. Two people familiar with the situation said Delta's board may be asked to allow formal talks between Delta and Northwest Airlines and UAL Corp.'s United Airlines, with the idea that Delta would choose to combine with one of the two. ...more

Beware The 'Rs' The less taxes, less government and more guns chairman of the Pasco Republican Party, Bill Bunting, wants everyone to support the state's ballot initiative on Jan. 29 that would increase the homestead exemption to $50,000. Isn't it ironic that the Legislature's support for raising the constitutional amendment passage rate from 50 percent to 60 percent in support of business interests that hate this voice of the people may well come back to bite them in the backside? ...more
