OFFERINGS LEADERSHIP TRAINING: Faith Family Outreach Church of Plant City, 1214 W. Reynolds St., Suite 2, is launching a new leadership training program, the Christian Leadership Development Institute, to provide instruction in the basic skills needed for assisting with positions of leadership within ministries. Some topics covered in the seven-week training program will include qualities of an effective leader, communicating effectively and more. Pauline Rivers, the church's co-pastor and an organization development and learning consultant with a doctoral degree from the University of Florida, will serve as executive director and lead instructor. Time doesn't stand still in the National Football League, but Joey Galloway does. At least that's how it has been lately for the guy who made a name as the fastest receiver for the Bucs. He is apparently healthy - normally big news – but it hasn't mattered. He has lost his job to Antonio Bryant, so Galloway has been on the sideline for all but a few plays of recent games. ...more

Wow! What a fantastic show. Highlands Little Theatre (HLT) has a real beauty in its current production, "Beauty and the Beast." I took my grandchildren on Nov. 2 for tea and biscuits with Belle. The theater was filled with children and adults meeting the characters, collecting autographs, having their picture taken with Belle and at intermission everyone had a tea party. ...more

Music Opera Lovers Club will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Forest Glen Retirement Community Center, 1431 Friar Tuck Lane, off Osowaw Boulevard, Spring Hill. The program will be "Before the Curtain Rises" by Nicole Benson, opera club member and soprano. Benson has studied vocal performance, with an emphasis in opera, at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and will be presenting a backstage look at what is involved with an opera - from the lighting man to the set designers to the singers themselves. The club is a group of opera lovers who want to learn more about opera and enjoy the fellowship of kindred spirits.
