Tampa Bay Water is poised to provide for future needs as more people move to the area and demands continue to grow, the regional authority's general manager told Pasco County officials. Gerald Seeber, who addressed the board at a meeting this week in New Port Richey, said Tampa Bay Water has reduced groundwater pumping significantly since 2002, in part because of increased collections of surface water from rivers and better production at a desalination plant in Apollo Beach. ...more

TRINITY -- Following the nationwide trend of environmentally responsible building, Trinity's Longleaf Community has been named the Greater Tampa area's first "Green Development" by the Florida Green Building Coalition. Not long ago, it looked as if Morton Plant Mease North Bay Hospital was going to be left holding the short stick. Both it and Community Hospital of New Port Richey wanted to leave their longtime homes in New Port Richey for the booming Trinity area of southwestern Pasco County. State regulators approved the Community Hospital move but said no to North Bay. At the time, Trinity seemed to have unlimited growth potential, thanks to its rural atmosphere but proximity to jobs in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area. A royal high tea was held Thursday at the Dade City Woman's Club in honor of the American Red Cross. Another tea was scheduled for Wednesday at Champions Club in Trinity. The teas were hosted by Red Cross board members Kathryn Starkey and Diane Heiler to benefit the Pasco County branch of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross. Guests heard about Red Cross services and were encouraged to help form a Red Cross auxiliary in the Pasco area. ...more
