SEBRING — Florida agricultural leaders say the federal government has cleared the state's tomatoes of being the cause of a national food poisoning scare, according to the Associated Press. Amid a salmonella outbreak linked to raw tomatoes, many fast-food chains and grocery stores had removed or stopped selling them altogether the last couple of days. SEBRING — Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has rated Lake Istokpoga as one of the top 13 spots in Florida for catching black bass. Istokpoga and the other 12 on the list were chosen by fish biologists, "based on local experience, creel surveys, (electro-fishing) data and the site's ability to handle fishing pressure with adequate ramps and fishing access," a press release from FWC states. ...more

SEBRING — Florida's Heartland Rural Economic Development Initiative completed a regional broadband study in the spring of 2007 that concluded the region is a strong candidate for the launch of a Rural Internet Service Provider. Jerry and Deanna Pollard of VistaNet are in the first phase of deploying a wireless broadband network in Hardee, Highlands and Okeechobee counties. Their plans are to extend the wireless network from coast to coast and into the Heartland. Jerry Pollard said "the feasibility study was a tremendous help in making this deployment of wireless broadband a reality." He described the study as a valuable tool in his decision making process. ...more
