Yesemia Polo wants to get to her classes at Jefferson High School but has missed three of four days this week through no fault of her own, her stepfather said. Mario Cabrera said his 17-year-old stepdaughter, who is starting her junior year at Jefferson, waited at the assigned bus stop at MacDill Avenue and Abdella Street in West Tampa on Monday and Wednesday with six or seven other students. 8:33 a.m. Polk County emergency managers are preparing to get back to business as usual. Because Fay appears to be heading to the east of Polk, officials expect no more than a stormy summer day. Red Cross shelters that were scheduled to open at 10 a.m. are no longer necessary and will not open. The special needs transportation has been canceled. Special needs shelters are open with a very small number of people in them, but those shelters are expected to close by noon today. ...more
