On Nov. 11, we attended a Veterans Day remembrance at the Lake Placid Christian School on Interlake Boulevard. We thank Headmaster Dennis Griffin and the faculty for letting us attend. We were impressed with the students and the ceremony, all the students and faculty gathered around the flag pole. The flag was raised by two students. The Pledge of Allegiance with proper salute was recited by all. Rev. DeHart lead us in prayer and gave a little talk on a friend of his who was in the war. One of the students gave a speech on what Veterans Day means to us and how we should honor our veterans. It was a very simple and meaningful ceremony. It was our privilege and pleasure to see and hear the youth of today remember this Veterans Day. Also in attendance was Charles Krueger, past commander, and Suzanne Krueger, patriotic instructor from the VFW 3880 in Lake Placid. ...more

There are many patriotic American holidays but none is more special and personal than Veterans Day. I believe this is because our nation was born through sacrifices of those who answered the call of duty. We cannot see or talk to those whom have served and gone to heaven's gates but there are still many here and many to come that are just like the ones before. This call of duty is very special to Americans. Although there has been a terrible time when we fought each other, it has made us a better country for history is a learning process and we all fall short. We have never fought to take another country's land; on the contrary we have fought to protect the lives and land of others. The call of duty for this nation is a righteous one and has made our soldiers the best in the world. ...more

On this Memorial Day, I am reminded of the extreme sacrifices made by so many Americans on behalf of the United States of America and, yes, the world. As someone currently working to preserve the legacy of that generation now known as "The Greatest Generation," I can tell you it has been my honor and extreme privilege to record and share stories from this fading group of veterans. Through their own words, they reveal World War II, a war now referred to as the good war, was anything but good. The lesson is that while war is never good, it is sometimes necessary and always comes at great cost. This weekend we invite you to search Central Florida WW2 Museum Veterans History Project on YouTube to hear their stories and dwell on the significance of remembering our veterans. I believe they deserve our attention. ...more
