We think we would all agree that it is great that the election is finally over. It is a long day for the workers at the polls, starting at 6 a.m. and ending after 8 p.m., plus there are several schools and meetings that we must attend before every election. The workers of Precinct 5, the Sebring Hills Club House, would like to publicly thank Sonny's Real Pit Barbecue, Brenda Brady and her staff, for providing us with a delicious meal both on Primary day in August and again on Election Day. SEBRING — Sebring resident Cynthia Hearn picked up a free month's rent courtesy of Riverside Bank. A presentation to the winner of Riverside Bank's "Live One Month Free on Us" sweepstakes was held recently at Riverside's Sebring office. "I can't believe it," said Hearn. "I can really use the additional funds this month." "All of us at Riverside Bank are excited about helping out Ms. Hearn and her two puppies," said Sophia Peavy, Riverside's Sebring office manager. "By eliminating the responsibility of a month's rent payment, Cynthia can use her funds toward paying off other bills or whatever else she wishes to use the money for. SEBRING — Riverside Bank has announced a sweepstakes in which winners will have one month's mortgage or rent paid for by the bank. The contest is created in response to a slumping economy at a time when most households are feeling the results of holiday spending. "We understand that many people in the home towns we serve are feeling the pinch of the difficult economy. We thought by presenting this sweepstakes, we could ease their pain a little," said John Williams, regional president in Highlands, Polk and Okeechobee counties. Heartland Horses and Handicapped Inc.'s second Annual Denim and Diamonds Gala held at the Quality Inn of Sebring on Saturday, Sept. 8 was a great success. Once again, the generous community of Highlands County pulled together in support of a unique and greatly needed program, which offers free equine assisted therapy for children and adults with special needs. The stars of the evening (and every day) were each of the seven horses, whose cost of care was auctioned off, granting the winning bidder a one-year sponsorship of their horse. ...more
