The animosity over homosexual marriage is basically over secular concept and religious belief. Here in the United States, Christians are in the vast majority and make up nearly 80 percent of the population. Accordingly, their lives, albeit in various degree, are led by the teachings of the church and Holy Bible. With regards to marriage the book of Mark 10:6-9 relates what Jesus told his disciples. "From the beginning of creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall man leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife. And they shall be one flesh, so then they are no more twain but one flesh. The goal of science is not to prove or disprove the existence of God. Science is not a religious belief. Just as psychology is a discipline that explores the workings of the human brain, science is a discipline that seeks to understand and explain the processes of the physical world. Evolution explains, in very specific physical terms, how living things change through time (for example, how does bacteria become resistant to antibiotics? How did jungle fowl become domesticated chickens?) Thousands of sophisticated scientific tests have been used to study evolution and the evidence is overwhelming. When preeminent biologists disagree, it's not the existence of evolution they question. They simply disagree about the specifics of how certain adaptations occurred. In the letter titled "Sense or Nonsense," Roy Dettwiler asks whatever happened to good common sense. He then goes on to define good common sense as existing only among those who share and do not challenge his own religious sense of right and wrong. The main flaw in the letter's reasoning is in comparing the laws of physics with religious opinion as to what is the law of God. Only an argument with a true premise can have a true conclusion.
