Capitalism vs. Socialism In the paper last week was a guest column written by Eric Veltri which makes it pretty clear that he does not enjoy living in a capitalist nation. I cannot accept his invitation to discuss it with him because I am still so old fashioned I do not own one of those e-mail generators. I believe Mr. Veltri can very easily solve his problem by selecting one of the socialist countries he admires and move there. ...more

In the June 22 edition of Highlands Today there is a letter best described as a diatribe submitted by Jerry Nargelovic. The writer should take time to learn the facts before writing such balderdash and he needs to learn that we cannot become isolated from the rest of the world. Global is the word today and not isolation. Incidentally, even the letter heading is incorrect. ...more

The result of the Highlands County Commissioners' meeting on March 2 reflects poorly upon that body.Pettiness and personal vendettas have no place in such a session. To do so poorly serves the citizens of this county. It appears that only Commissioner Bates showed any real business experience and a true understanding of the subject. What is wrong with the Bates approach? Who even knows what the true cost of the sheriff's facilitity is? Architects' guesstimates frequently are off base and in these times there are many reputable contractors willing to shave profits in order to obtain such a contract and interest rates on such long term municipal loans can be locked in at a low rate. ...more

I am no fan of George W. Bush but I agree with your Dec. 17 editorial. George Bush has made any mistakes during his second term; a term he should never have been re-elected to. Those who voted for his re-election obviously were not paying attention to what was going on around them. On the other hand he really had no opposition. ...more

Why is it that some people are so hung up on the race issue that cannot be objective? In his latest letter, Oct. 3, Decaris T. Jones, Sr. again raises the race issue. Why doesn't he forget the color bit and ask himself these questions: ...more

Well, let us thank God for all little favors. The Barack Obama week long circus at Denver is finally over and what did it prove? It proved that Obama is still an empty suit and no more qualified to be president of the USA than my German shepherd. He still offers only a glib tongue and an air of complete arrogance. Nothing he has shown makes him a qualified candidate. ...more

Commenting on Mr. Donald A. Pusey's letter of rebuttal to Mr. Randy Ludacer's letter, endorsing Obama for president, I would like to make a few comments of my own. Mr. Pusey, perhaps you have not read as many letters and guest editorials from Randy as I have, but I have read many. ...more

In the Aug. 14 edition of Highlands Today there was a letter written by Randy Ludacer. Mr. Ludacer's hot button appears to have been activated by an innocent comment Sen. John McCain made about his battle with Sen. Barack Obama. McCain said: "I know how to win wars." Mr. Ludacer completely misunderstood the comment, although the media did not. ...more
