Camp K9, a doggie day care and lodging center in Trinity, will hold a Pet Wellness Fair on Saturday to promote proper maintenance for the furrier friends of families. The event is open to the public 1 to 4 p.m. and a veterinarian from Trinity Pet Hospital will be on hand to administer free dental exams and answer questions. A special price on pet microchipping – the injection of a microchip to help detect lost animals – will also be offered for $35. Recently the Heartland Riders Association went before the Board of the Tourist Development Council to request the balance of the $15,500 that had been budgeted for the Run to the Heartland Event held in October. The event attracted 52,000 visitors to our county and according to the TDC this event only garnered just over 550 room nights. ...more

Save Our Seabirds is soon going to be on the move, or at least hopes to be. The nonprofit organization is planning on moving all of its birds from its Wimauma facility into the former Pelican Man's Bird Sanctuary in Sarasota. But can't do so until the Sarasota facility is cleaned and repaired. And one way SOS is trying to raise the needed cash is to host a yard sale on Sept. 20. But to have a yard sale, the organization is asking for donations. Items needed include toys, tools, clothing, artwork, kitchenware, pot and pans, small appliances and books. ...more
