Picking Palin to be his running mate was to McCain the perfect political choice, but using her family's experience in order to gain the fundamentalist votes will not be good for the fundamentalist cause, as it blows up their theory that teaching abstinence is the solution to teen pregnancies. Before Palin became a political pawn, women were supposed to stay home and teach their children family values, even to the point of home schooling. We are now being told that a working mother can have it all as long as she doesn't resort to abortions (and can afford to have others take up her duties at home.) ...more

Whatever his motives, and plenty of people will speculate on that, Sen. Barack Obama made a gutsy and appropriate move when he told an audience in Springfield, Ill., that he opposes slavery reparations and even apologies for the darkest corners of our nation's history.
