Employees of Peace River Electric Cooperative (PRECO) made a startling discovery when looking for the cause of a recent power outage. Van Crawford and J.R. Gough found that power lines were torn down from four poles along a stretch of Dansby Road near Wauchula. A visual search of the area revealed a single-engine airplane lying upside down in a nearby orange grove. They arrived shortly after the Dec. 7 crash. ...more

Tampa-based Seminole Electric Cooperative Inc. has filed a complaint with a federal agency against CSX Transportation Inc., saying new CSX rates to ship coal from Illinois and Appalachia to a Palatka generating station could add to utility costs for more than 1.7 million consumers. Seminole serves the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative in Dade City, the Sumter Electric Cooperative in Sumterville and the Peace River Electric Cooperative in Wauchula among 10-nonprofit systems. ...more
