On Nov. 11, we attended a Veterans Day remembrance at the Lake Placid Christian School on Interlake Boulevard. We thank Headmaster Dennis Griffin and the faculty for letting us attend. We were impressed with the students and the ceremony, all the students and faculty gathered around the flag pole. The flag was raised by two students. The Pledge of Allegiance with proper salute was recited by all. Rev. DeHart lead us in prayer and gave a little talk on a friend of his who was in the war. One of the students gave a speech on what Veterans Day means to us and how we should honor our veterans. It was a very simple and meaningful ceremony. It was our privilege and pleasure to see and hear the youth of today remember this Veterans Day. Also in attendance was Charles Krueger, past commander, and Suzanne Krueger, patriotic instructor from the VFW 3880 in Lake Placid. ...more

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter regarding Prisoners of War-Missing in Action Recognition Day. We should honor the men and women who served and sacrificed to keep our America free, and to salute the families of the missing who continue to keep the candle of hope alive today. I cannot imagine how I would feel if I lost my husband or family member for this length of time, days, months and yes, even decades. They deserve an answer. ...more

The first day of May is Loyalty Day and is such a day filled with activities designed to involve everyone in a great display of loyalty to our flag and or country. The VFW has fought a long and hard battle to have this day approved by Congress and it not only belongs to the VFW but to each and every American citizen. All staunch Americans must awake and live up to their obligation as responsible citizens if we are to remain free, for only the loyal and responsible fully deserve to be free. ...more
