They can avoid a slow start. This has been a problem for the Bucs all year, and though they have shown the ability to bounce back and often do, they don't want to give up an early lead to the Raiders. If Oakland jumps to a lead, it will keep the ball on the ground and attack the middle of the Bucs' defense. That has proved to be a winning formula for rival teams the past few weeks, so the Bucs want to take an early lead and force the Raiders to lean on QB JaMarcus Russell and not on their running game. ...more

Time doesn't stand still in the National Football League, but Joey Galloway does. At least that's how it has been lately for the guy who made a name as the fastest receiver for the Bucs. He is apparently healthy - normally big news – but it hasn't mattered. He has lost his job to Antonio Bryant, so Galloway has been on the sideline for all but a few plays of recent games. ...more

AVON PARK –– "We want to win bad. I mean really bad," sounded Avon Park senior Ashton Shirey, who is still feeling the sting of how the '06 girls softball season ended — on a controversial play at the plate at the hands of Braden River — and then watching arch-rival Sebring win the Class 4A-District 10 title on their home field. A close play at the plate, where it looked like Lamb had tagged the runner, was called a score and ended Avon Park's hopes of meeting the Blue Streaks in the title game. A bitter pill was being swallowed as the long faces of the Red Devils gazed at the celebrating Blue Streaks, knowing full well that it could have and should have been them. "Nobody wants to watch their rival win on their home field," Shirey said. "This team is back with a strong resolve this season, knowing that this is our chance. This is our time." ...more

LB Michael Boley has become the Falcons' biggest playmaker on defense. He has the ability to make plays all over the field, much like Derrick Brooks and Cato June, but his best trait may be his blitzing. He is fast, and the Falcons make good use of his skills. They line him up on the strong side much the way the Bucs do with June, so the Bucs should have a tight end there to help when he attempts to invade their backfield on a blitz. With a chip-blocker left in as well, the Bucs should be able to pick up not only Boley but Keith Brooking and the occasional blitzing defensive back. It's imperative that the Bucs are sound against the blitz this week. The Falcons take a lot of chances on defense, and Boley, in particular, has the ability to get to the quarterback and make him pay with a heavy hit. ...more
