LAKE PLACID — A local winter coat drive to warm the residents of a Lakota Sioux reservation at Wounded Knee, S.D., exceeded the expectations of organizer Betty Luckey and her family. Luckey dreamed of collecting 500 coats. Thanks to overwhelming response, she will be able to present almost 1,000 coats to 500 residents — and just in time for Christmas.
