A recent Op-Ed column was written by Leonard Pitts of The Miami Herald, and reprinted in Highlands Today and other papers. The title of Pitt's opinion column was "Eagerly Awaiting History's Verdict." In his column he hoped that President Bush would live a long life to see all of the mistakes that he had made. Sarah Palin's "Bridge to Nowhere" now has a road to nowhere. It was reported on CNN that the Bridge To Nowhere was needed to support their local airport. The Road to Nowhere was to connect the Bridge to Nowhere to the airport. Here is where it gets interesting. ...more

Mr. David Majick wrote a rebuttal article pertaining to the question of America having an oil shortage. In his reference to my article questioning an oil shortage, he also referenced Mr. Lindsey Williams and his views that the North Slope of Alaska has enough oil to last us 200 years. I do not know if Alaska holds enough oil to last America 200 years but I do know that we are shipping that oil out of America. ...more

Everyone has heard about the record "profits" of United States oil companies. These companies are also in record debt due to the lack of backing and restrictions placed on them by our government. The clearing of unwanted plant growth surrounding Lake Jackson has those driving by on U.S. 27 receiving a better look at one of Sebring's most pristine sights. To enhance the area around Lake Jackson, especially the south shore along U.S. 27, it might do well for a city endeavor to emulate what the town of Lake Placid has done. The entrance to Lake June Point in Lake Placid, as well as the entrance from U.S. 27 west on Interlake Boulevard, had sable (cabbage) palms planted to enhance the feel of our tropical Florida. The Lake June Point landscape also has monsteria planted around the palms that require a minimum of maintenance and enhance the beauty of the palms. ...more
