This is an open letter to the school board. I know you are trying to be fair and did the best you can with the budget but please do not cut high school and middle school athletics! They are so important to the kids, especially now. In a recession when many parents are laid off, there is usually more tension in the house. Playing sports can help save the day. As you know, the argument is that sports keep the kids off the street and out of trouble. Many pro athletes have said sports also kept them focused and helped them concentrate better in school. ...more

On behalf of the staff and students at Hill-Gustat Middle School, I would like to offer our sincere appreciation to all who helped make our recent barbecue a success. The Sebring Fireman's Annual barbecue began in 1977 and has been held every year to assist middle school athletics.
