AVON PARK — The City Council heard some noise from a resident complaining about people blasting their stereos all over the city, and agreed that the existing noise ordinance wasn't enough to mute them. The council asked City Attorney Gerald Buhr and Police Chief Matthew Doughney to figure a way to increase the penalties for playing loud music, after Charles Devlin said that he could hear them across Lake Tulane most weekends. TAMPA - In an age-old conflict between the pursuit of happiness and the right to remain undisturbed, the Sarasota City Commission last night sided with the undisturbed. AVON PARK — It's Friday, about 11 a.m. Two SUVs drive up, and five people get out. There's no sign outside identifying the name of the business to G&R Supermarket, in one of Avon Park's sketchiest neighborhoods. It's the sort of place that looks scary, but the people were companionable. For 30 minutes, Anthony Lomonico parked his maroon Cadillac Escalade in the Lacey Hills neighborhood of southeast Avon Park and tried to call a friend on his cell phone, but with no success.
