LAKE PLACID — Playing with effort, intensity and determination — something that's been lacking on a consistent basis during the season — the Lake Placid boys basketball team used a balanced attack led by Conlin Veley's team-high 13 points to beat LaBelle 64-49 on Friday night. Veley also pulled down 12 rebounds, while younger brother Kurt Veley scored nine points on three 3-pointers as the Class 3A Green Dragons improved to 9-11 with the non-district win. LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid boys basketball team seemed to have a handle on things after one quarter of play Tuesday night against Frostproof. But for the next six minutes, the Green Dragons simply got handled. The Green Dragons lost in the Class 3A-District 10 finals to Frostproof and ended their season with a loss in the regional quarterfinals against state power Florida Air Academy. LAKE PLACID –– With an infusion of ability and talent, the Lake Placid girls basketball team plays its first home game of the season tonight against Walker Memorial Academy. The Green Dragons dropped their season opener against Clewiston by a score of 39-33 on Tuesday night, but LP coach Shonda Legree saw a lot of positives in the loss. "I was very pleased with our effort because we played hard and were competitive," the sixth-year Green Dragon coach said.
