I am sure this subject had been addressed before, but I am at a loss as to why our law enforcement officials would give the news media lists of the locations and dates of where they plan to set up traffic checks for driver license, auto insurance and safety defects. As I see it, the law enforcement and the news media are doing a disservice to the law-abiding public who maintain valid driver licenses, auto insurance and keep their autos in a safe operating condition. ...more

SEBRING — After searching a county landfill for a nearly a week for the body of an infant that was reportedly thrown in the garbage by a Lake Placid woman, law enforcement officials will "re-evaluate" today whether they will continue searching. Sheriff Susan Benton said late Sunday morning that she, the state attorney and the lead detectives needed to speak to the medical examiner to determine if the search could produce anything further at this point.
