SEBRING — Taking advantage of perfect weather and outstanding scoring conditions, the talented duo of Frank Guglielmi and Dale Anderson shot an impressive 12-under-par 60 to finish first in the Championship Flight of the Sebring Sunrise Rotary Club's annual Smith Barney golf tournament at Sun 'N Lake Country Club on Saturday. SEBRING –– With picture postcard weather and the demanding Harder Hall golf course in excellent shape, Saturday's Meals On Wheels golf tournament was a rousing success. The 18-hole, four-person scramble attracted a field of 76 golfers and the talented foursome of Scott Mauck, Mike Lamere, Don Randloph and Bill Diekman won the First Flight with a 51. The team of Paul Howard, Don Belcher, Bob Parker and Bob Young placed second with a 54, while Floyd Osborne, Alan Price, Cody Watt and Justin Painter came in third with a 55. AVON PARK — Next to the tee: the resurrection of the Highlands County Women's Amateur golf tournament. The once popular annual event, which was last held in 1989 at SpringLake Golf Resort, is being brought back by Highlands Ridge North assistant director of golf Melissa Doorlag. Doorlag, an outstanding golfer herself, played in the last event and thinks that the time is right for a return. "The tournament was discontinued because of lack of participation, but there has been an increase in the number of women golfers in the county who play at a high level," Doorlag said. "There is a Highlands County men's amateur, and I think it's time for the women to have their own event." ...more
