Okeechobee –– The Everglades Division of the $8.8 million Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League will visit Lake Okeechobee in Okeechobee on Jan. 5 for the first of five regular-season events. The HT3 Outdoors' Team Open Bass Tournament came to Lake Kissimmee Chain of lakes and launched out of Camp Mack River Resort located on the Kissimmee river canal between Lake Hatchineha and Lake Kissimmee. Thirty-eight teams participated in the event which featured a different format and option of teams using two boats instead of the usual one boat. Also, the limit was extended to six bass any size - if teams used two boats each angler's limitation was three bass to be combined with his team mate at the scales to be weighed in together. ...more

LORIDA — A Lorida hunter whose Web site touts him as "Florida's Exclusive Guide and Outfitter" and who has been featured on several nationally televised hunting shows, is facing second-degree misdemeanor charges for attempting to take an alligator without a permit. Daniel Santangelo, 42, of 5229 Bluff Hammock Road, was cited by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Officials on Aug. 16, the first night of the 2007 Phase I alligator hunting season, in the Kissimmee River at Bluff Hammock. The officer who pulled over the airboat said he saw one of Santangelo's passengers standing on the boat with a harpoon as he approached the vessel, according to Highlands County Courthouse records. ...more
