SEBRING – Harder Hall is up for sale again after the buyer, Steve Israel, pulled out his contract when the Sebring City Council refused his request to extend the due-diligence period. Nils Richter, a representative for Israel, said Tuesday night they could not secure financing for the project to renovate the hotel and build condominiums on the site. "We didn't find it easy in this market to get the financing we need," Richter said. "We are trying to put together something that makes financial sense." Instead of extending the due-diligence period, city council members told Richter to submit another contract if he is still interested in purchasing the property. ...more

Eight local students, accompanied by four chaperons, attended the recent Space Camp for the Blind at the Space Center in Huntsville, Ala. The weeklong camp drew 160 blind or visually impaired students from 26 U.S. states, as well as Israel, Liberia, Ireland and Canada. Activities included learning about the history of space exploration, basic military procedure and drills, robotics and survival skills. SEBRING — Harder Hall is changing hands once again, after Sebring Hospitality Group withdrew its contract just hours before the due-diligence period ended Thursday. The city will now move forward with its contract with Steve Israel, an investor from New York, who has offered to purchase the hotel for $5.6 million. City council approved a back-up contract with Israel at a Sept. 19 meeting, in case the contract with Sebring Hospitality Group fell through. Sebring Hospitality Group requested a 30-day extension to its due-diligence period, which the city council denied at a special meeting Thursday. ...more
