Sheriff Benton's supporters in the past have submitted negative comments regarding Ron Grimming's qualifications and length of residency in this county. He certainly is a very qualified candidate when considering his administrative experience as former director of the Florida Highway Patrol and former deputy director of the Illinois State Police. However, it is the negative comments regarding his length of residency that I take issue with. Obviously he has met the legal requirement to run for this office and that alone should be the determining factor. ...more

For someone who would fail the first question on "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?," the writer seems to have had some assistance in writing a very detailed — but false — missive smearing Ron Grimming. I urge the citizens of Highlands County to follow the anti-Grimming writer's advice and research Ron Grimming. You would find a long and distinguished career with the Illinois State Police followed by his stint at the Florida Highway Patrol. Serving at the pleasure of the governor one can only maintain a position if they become a "yes man." Ron Grimming was not that man. ...more

First of all, if you check the records, Mr. Grimming has not received any contributions from Michigan. He has received contributions from Illinois. This is due to family support and the respect he earned from colleagues during his years with the Illinois State Police. During his tenure he rose through the ranks from a patrolman to become deputy director. ...more
