Heartland Horses & Handicapped Inc., its volunteers and board members would like to express our deepest gratitude to the hosts, sponsors, and riders who helped to make the Sandy Kuhn Memorial El Clair Ranch Ride-A-Thon a great success. With 109 riders and their families, we were able to raise nearly $9,000! This will enable our program to continue offering independence, mobility and dignity to children and adults with special needs. It is through the generosity of individuals and business that we are able to continue this program free of charge for all participants. The benefits of our program and those alike are endless. Riding for the disabled has become a well recognized and acclaimed method of improving the lives of those who refuse to let their disabilities limit them. LAKE PLACID — Contractor Ray Hornick is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his company, Hornick Homes Inc., this year. Hornick acknowledged after that amount of time most of the homes he has been building are looking the same to him. The EDGE All Stars from EDGE Cheer Center in Sebring astounded the crowds with their high-flying and solid performances at the Spirit Cheer Tampa Championships held in Lakeland on Nov. 18. This was the first competition of the season for these athletes and all teams came home with top honors in their divisions. Head coach and gym owner, Jenny Rowe, was extremely happy with the performances of her athletes. "These girls and boys train very hard each week and their teamwork and pride in what they do really showed through their performances," she said. "They represented our community very well and I am extremely excited to see what the rest of our season brings for these kids." EDGE Mini All Stars, composed of 12 young ladies ages 5 to 8 from throughout Highlands County, were the first to compete. ...more
