SEBRING — Sebring wrestling coach Dave Cunningham has stepped down after three seasons with the Blue Streaks after taking a medical leave from teaching at Hill-Gustat Middle School. A district rule prohibits teachers on medical leave from coaching, and, according to Sebring Athletic Director Terry Quarles, the Highlands County school board notified her on Friday that Cunningham was ineligible to coach. ...more

SEBRING — Don't be surprised if you see more shaved heads than usual in Highlands County schools. It's all for a good cause. Five principals and teachers wanted to show support for Kindergarten Learning Center Dean "Mr. K" Rick Kogelschatz who has cancer. So they decided to shear their locks. Kogelschatz had a kidney transplant about 1½ years ago. During the summer he was treated for testicular cancer, which spread to a lung for which he is currently receiving chemotherapy. His fellow faculty and students from three schools, who've been associated with him as a teacher and dean, have tried to bolster Kogelschatz's spirits. ...more

SEBRING – When talking to Bruce Lybarger, one has to wonder whether there is a corollary between the wheel symbol for Rotary Clubs and those on race cars. He's a fanatic about both. Since 1982, Rotarian Bruce Lybarger has been a C.P.A. in downtown Sebring. He enjoys golf as a social outlet, but prefers watching auto races. He attends the biggies, like the Indy 500 and the 24 Hours of LeMans in France, but his personal favorite is the Twelve Hours of Sebring."I can't put a price on it," he said. "It's an international event encased with a local flair. It's a bonus of living here." Rotary International is the largest civic organization in the world with 1.3 million members. SEBRING – The majority of units in the first phase of the Schumacher Road Business Park have been reserved, according to the Realtor for the project. Greg Karlson, broker/owner of ERA Advantage Realty, said 13 units have either been sold or leased in the business park, which is located next to Hill-Gustat Middle School in Sebring. Businesses that will locate there include a fish market, contractor, karate school, a design company and a home school. Karlson said an investor has bought one unit and might take another. ...more
