A controversial call in the top of the sixth inning spoiled a stellar pitching performance by Tyrone Perry on Saturday, as the Avon Park Majors (11-12) All-Stars fell 1-0 to Liberty County in the opening round of the Dixie Youth Majors state tournament. Last Saturday, May 17, our home caught on fire in our kitchen. We would like to thank first God for no injuries. Highlands County Sheriff's Office for being the first to repond. EMS for helping us put out the fire. Three volunteer fire departments: Highlands Park, Lake Placid and Sun 'n Lakes. Chief Richard Giavoni, thanks! Chief of Lake Placid Police and volunteer firefighter Phil Williams. Bringing out our wedding picture is really something we will never forget. Thanks. LAKE PLACID — Everybody dreams. Many dream of running their own business, while others dream of owning their own home. Sometimes those two wishes conflict. Five years ago, Joanne and Paul Heinsohn moved into Highlands Park Estates and sought peace and quiet. During the past two years, Joanne Heinsohn has called the Highlands County Code Enforcement Office eight to 10 times with complaints that a truck trailer is parked in the neighborhood. In February, that neighbor received a warning citation from the county for parking a truck trailer in a residential area, and was given seven days to comply. ...more

SEBRING — Searchers at the county landfill looking for a baby that was tossed into the trash by a Lake Placid woman located a piece of bedding belonging to the residence, according to Highlands County Sheriff Susan Benton on Friday. ...more
