Our elected leaders, both city and county, are laying the foundations for the future by creating ways to raise taxes on us and are doing it with all the vengeance and hatefulness they can muster without regard for voters and taxpayers. Sebring claims they will lower the millage to accommodate the 1-pecent fire assessment fee with a 10-percent cap. If one figures this out, a tax bill of $3,000 will become $3,300, then $3,630, etc. There goes the tax savings we voted on. ...more

Rocky Khara's favorite hole of late has undoubtedly been No. 19. For the second time this month, the Bagwell Junior Tournament champion came from behind and birdied the first playoff hole to defeat Sebring High School's Blake Liles and win the 17-18 boys division at a Sertoma Junior Tour event at Harder Hall golf course. ...more

SEBRING –– The inaugural Jacob Casey Scholarship and Educational Fund golf tournament was held Saturday at Harder Hall Country Club. Casey, who spent his childhood in Avon Park, moved to Ocala and played football on the Trinity Catholic squad that won the Class 2A state championship. Jacob was tragically killed in a car accident and his father, Brian, came up with the idea for the memorial. "This is a non-profit tournament," said Casey. "All the funds raised will go to underprivileged youth in Highlands County." Current Gator backup quarterback John Brantley, who played with Jacob at Trinity Catholic, along with several other Gator athletes, participated in the event. ...more
