TRINITY - The Fox Hollow Golf Club will look to crown its new men's and women's top golfers next month as the Club Championship gets underway July 19 and 20. The members-only tournament costs $25 to participate and is open to all handicaps. Gross and net winners will be recognized - gross being an individual's actual total shots played, net referring to one's post-handicap score. ...more

SEBRING –– The second year of the Players Club Golf Tour is at hand and the first tournament of the season is set for March 15 at Sebring Golf Club. The brainchild of former Sebring Golf Club professional Tom McClurg (who left the Heartland in December to take a job as Director of Golf at Chula Vista Golf Resort in the Dells, Wis.) the Players Club Tour will be run by River Greens golf course professional Jason Beatty. "Tom started these events to give the local players a chance to compete in individual tournaments on Saturdays over the course of the year," Beatty said. "I'm looking forward to the first tournament, and I hope a lot of the local golfers take advantage of this opportunity." A $75 membership fee is required to play in the tournaments. ...more

AVON PARK — Next to the tee: the resurrection of the Highlands County Women's Amateur golf tournament. The once popular annual event, which was last held in 1989 at SpringLake Golf Resort, is being brought back by Highlands Ridge North assistant director of golf Melissa Doorlag. Doorlag, an outstanding golfer herself, played in the last event and thinks that the time is right for a return. "The tournament was discontinued because of lack of participation, but there has been an increase in the number of women golfers in the county who play at a high level," Doorlag said. "There is a Highlands County men's amateur, and I think it's time for the women to have their own event." ...more
