The Florida National Cemetery will hold its Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday. The event is sponsored by the cemetery's Joint Veterans Committee and will feature guest speaker Thomas G. Pasco County commissioners Tuesday will salute two Pasco County soldiers killed in Iraq. The ceremony is at 11:45 a.m. at the West Pasco Government Center, 7530 Little Road. The board will honor, with resolutions, Army Pfc. Patrick Joseph "PJ" Miller, who was from New Port Richey, and Army Sgt. Marcus Mathes, who hailed from Zephyrhills. They died from combat injuries on March 29 and April 28, respectively. The soldiers' names, which have been added to the veterans' memorial at the government center, will be unveiled after the ceremony. VFW Post 10167 of Holiday will present the colors and retired Army Maj. Gen. Richard Griffitts will read the resolutions and present them to family members. The ceremony will conclude with a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps. ...more
