FROSTPROOF — Speed has never been an attribute missing from the Frostproof boys soccer squad, but a strong defense was the difference in the Bulldogs' 1-0 victory over Sebring at Faris Brannen Stadium on Tuesday. "We'll live to fight another day," said SHS head coach Paul Brown, whose team had gone undefeated (8-0-2) in its previous 10 games. "[Frostproof] is deserving to win. They ran us off the ball. I'm a bit disappointed. We played very flat tonight and lost a bit of momentum we'd built up before the break. "We just need to come out and beat Avon Park on Thursday and get back on track." The Class 3A Bulldogs controlled the middle, stacking center field and keeping he ball out of Sebring's heavy hitters, which forced the Blue Streaks to the wings. ...more

SEBRING –– After starting the season off struggling to score goals, the Sebring boys soccer team has turned into a veritable scoring machine. The Blue Streaks continued their outstanding recent play on Thursday night, as senior Daniel Grimaldo scored two goals and Nick Peters and Gilberto Santos added a goal to spark a 4-1 win over Palmetto in a key Class 4A-District 10 match at Firemen's Field. "This is one of the best feelings I've had all season," said an elated Grimaldo. "We've come so far and we're a different team from the beginning of the year. "Our defense is anticipating passes and playing great, and our offense is on fire." Sebring, which is unbeaten in its last 10 matches, improved to 10-4-2 overall and 6-1-1, while the Tigers suffered their first district loss and dropped to 10-2-1, 7-1-1. ...more

WAUCHULA — The roster is certainly the same, but after watching the Sebring boys soccer team scrap its way to a 3-1 victory over Hardee on Thursday night, one gets the feeling that this is a different team altogether. Senior Daniel Grimaldo scored two second-half goals and senior Nicholas Peters added another to help the Blue Streaks extend their unbeaten streak to eight games since losing to the Wildcats on Nov. 27. Grimaldo, who capped the scoring with a show-stopping header into the net in the 59th minute for his second multiple-goal game of the season, said the Streaks are playing at a different level than they were when they opened the season with four straight home losses. "We were rusty last time we played them," Grimaldo said. "That wasn't our team then. Tonight, we showed up and played hard." Sebring coach Paul Brown, who joked his team "didn't come out of the locker room" during the Streaks' 2-0 loss to Hardee earlier this season, said his team responded well to the Wildcats' challenge this time around. ...more

SEBRING — Speed has its place on the highway, but nothing slows a team down more than the inability to deal with an opponent that's fleet of foot. The Lake Placid boys soccer team had no antidote to the team speed of the Sebring boys soccer team, which was quicker to the ball, faster in the open field and were quick on defense in their 4-2 victory over cross-county rival Green Dragons at Firemen's Field. Sophomore Buck Schroeder's speed was on display early, as he broke away from his man on the left wing and watched his chip shot dribble into the net for the game's first score just four minutes into the contest. ...more

SEBRING — Okeechobee scored three goals minutes into the second half, as the Brahmans defeated the Sebring Blue Streaks 4-3 in boys soccer action at Firemen's Field on Tuesday. Nick Peters scored the first goal for Sebring to tie the score at one heading into the locker room at halftime. "I thought we played pretty well in the first half," said SHS coach Paul Brown. "We just didn't come out for the second half. The team looked so disorganized and [Okeechobee] took advantage of our defensive mistakes." ...more

SEBRING –– Friendly rivalries are healthy in the sports arena, but when the boundaries of good sportsmanship are crossed, anything can happen. What should have been Amanda Grimaldo's coming-out party turned ugly on Thursday, as a game-halting melee ensued in the 70th minute of Sebring's 5-0 win over Avon Park in a Class 4A-District 10 showdown at Firemen's Field. With the Blue Streaks up by four goals, an Avon Park and Sebring player got tangled up after going for the ball late in the match. One shove led to another, and after a punch to the jaw, the fight ensued. Both teams had players run on the field, as cheers from both sides could be heard over the commotion. "That is the last thing we need in a soccer match," Sebring goalie Becca Secory said. "I wasn't sure what had happened at first, but when I realized there was a fight, I tried to calm our bench down." ...more

SEBRING — Like they were running in slow motion. The Sebring Blue Streaks girls soccer team opened their season in less than grand fashion, looking very sluggish and unable to shake off the rust against a very spry LaBelle Cowboys team in a 3-0 loss in the season opener at Firemen's Field on Tuesday. The Blue Streaks, who were without key player Heather McIntyre, were outhustled and outplayed from the opening whistle, unable to consistently break through the Cowboy midfield defense. ...more
