Recent letters to the Tribune have dealt with socialized health care. The most amusing was the "Letter Of The Day" submitted by a Canadian woman who by her own admission spends a great deal of time getting "free" care. Ailments included two knee replacements, bowel surgery, ankle surgery and numerous other problems. I wonder what kind of program the Canadian government has to try to keep people healthy. ...more

I am outraged by the recent "solutions" proposed by our "leaders" in Washington to the financial crisis. Unelected bureaucrats and several shameful congressmen have staged a dangerous coup. They have hijacked our wonderful democratic and free market institutions and debased them into socialist nightmares that would make Hugo Chavez and Vladimir Putin blush. If that doesn't alarm you, then try this: Over the past three months, two unelected bureaucrats have decided to spend $1 trillion (at least) of your money to prop up their former colleagues or future consulting gigs. ...more

Much Too Compassionate I would like to congratulate all of the responsible taxpayers, homeowners and businesses who are going to bail out reckless mortgage companies, real estate speculators and home buyers who caused the mortgage crisis. Regarding "Fannie, Freddie Rescue Planned" (front page, July 14): The recent actions by our lawmakers in Washington have me worried me that we are headed down a dark path of government interference.
