Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum's office said today it has filed a lawsuit against Countrywide Financial for engaging in "deceptive and unfair trade practices." The suit says Countrywide, one of the nation's largest mortgage companies, knowingly put Florida borrowers into mortgages they couldn't afford or into loans with rates and penalties that were "misleading." ...more

TAMPA – The state Supreme Court today upheld the conviction and death sentence of a Tampa man who stomped a woman to death at a Little League ballpark in Belmont Heights 20 years ago. TAMPA - At least a dozen families plan to seek restitution in court because their children's dreams of stardom were dashed at the Tampa Convention Center about two weeks ago when a company promising them acting classes vanished. Charles Gallagher, a St. Petersburg attorney representing the families, filed a civil complaint today against the California-based company, Pacific Modeling and Acting Academy. Gallagher said he is seeking a cumulative refund of more than $15,000, as well as damages and fees. ...more
