President Obama ordered the detention facility at Guantanamo closed within a year. Prior to the announcement a terrorist known as Said Ali al-Shihri who was released after spending six years inside the U.S. prison camp and is now the number 2 of Yemen's al-Qaeda branch according to a purported internet terror network statement. Although al-Shiri was released in Nov. 2007 and transferred to his homeland, he ended up in Yemen and is now reported to be working for al-Qaeda again. ...more

The construction industry has been hit hard by the recession. More than 1 million jobs were lost in our industry in the last year, with 110,000 industry jobs lost in January alone. The huge infusion of money promised by the economic stimulus package was good news for the industry, but an executive order signed by President Obama on Feb. 6 will funnel those funds to his political supporters (labor unions). ...more

One of the first things Barack Obama did when he became president was order that no person who had worked as a lobbyist in the past two years could then work for a federal government agency he or she had previously lobbied. The executive order, issued Jan. 21, was a clear and decisive stand against "business as usual" in Washington. ...more

A written plea of not guilty was entered Monday for Sebring City Councilman Dan Andrews, who was arrested Nov. 24 on felony charges. Gov. Charlie Crist announced today that Florida banks and mortgage lenders have agreed to delay certain foreclosure proceedings – an agreement industry leaders described as a "reaffirmation" of their practices rather than a major change. The announcement fell short of expectations that built up around Crist's initial comments last week about declaring a moratorium on foreclosures, possibly by executive order. Today, Crist made clear that the 45-day foreclosure freeze would be voluntary on the part of bankers and other participating lenders, giving homesteaded property owners the opportunity to renegotiate their payment plans. ...more
