SEBRING - As Tropical Storm Fay tracks further to the east, the National Weather Service predicted 11:15 a.m. Tuesday that six to 10 inches of rain could be dumped on the county before Fay leaves the area, with even more in some spots. The gauge at the Highlands County Emergency Operations Center south of Sebring measured 2.87 inches of rain fell since the storm's outer bands reached the county. ...more

8:33 a.m. Polk County emergency managers are preparing to get back to business as usual. Because Fay appears to be heading to the east of Polk, officials expect no more than a stormy summer day. Red Cross shelters that were scheduled to open at 10 a.m. are no longer necessary and will not open. The special needs transportation has been canceled. Special needs shelters are open with a very small number of people in them, but those shelters are expected to close by noon today. ...more
