The thrill was gone from Tropicana Field on Friday night. Some sort of letdown surely was expected with the Cubs, their mystique and their fans in the rear-view mirror and the slumping Houston Astros moving into the visitors' dugout. An opponent that came to town having lost eight in a row and 17 of its last 20 games didn't do much to get the juices flowing for the Rays or their supporters, making the effort Roy Oswalt put forth more than enough to secure a welcome 4-3 victory for the Astros. ...more

SEBRING — Despite trailing Okeechobee American by four runs midway through the Dixie AAA (ages 9-10) District 8 championship game on Monday night, there wasn't any panic in the Sebring dugout. The boys in blue and white simply went to the plate and began their assault on yet another pitcher. Sebring, which banged out 10 hits against three Okeechobee American hurlers, proceeded to score 14 runs in two innings on their way to a convincing 15-5 victory and the District 8 championship at Max Long Recreational Complex. ...more
