LAKE PLACID — For a senior-laden team like Lake Placid, moral victories don't mean much. Despite controlling the pace of play in the second half and out-playing a talented Frostproof club, the Green Dragons boys soccer team took no solace from a 1-0 loss to the Bulldogs at Roger Scarborough Memorial Field on Friday night. "We still have a lot of confidence, but we have to work on our finishes," senior Hermello Villeda said. "It's frustrating, but we have to keep communicating and playing hard because there is a lot of soccer left." The Class 3A-District 10 win improved Frostproof to 5-1-1, 2-1. ...more

LAKE PLACID — Fort Meade's size was too much for the much smaller Lake Placid girls basketball team to handle on Monday night, as the Green Dragons fell 53-25 to the Miners in a non-district meeting. Fort Meade's inside duo of forward Bette Morris and center Akaycla Robinson — both of whom check in at over six feet — pounded the Green Dragons and gobbled up most of the rebounds on both ends of the court, scoring on countless second-chance opportunities and leading their team to a 32-11 halftime lead. ...more

LAKE PLACID — Run and gun, and then run some more. Lake Placid used the speed of junior point guard Kaneisha Hamilton, who scored a game-high 15 points, to lead the Green Dragons past Walker Memorial 41-32 in a non-district girls basketball meeting on Thursday night. The win evened Lake Placid's record at 1-1, and with three players scoring eight points apiece, the Dragon's new offense had its desired effect. ...more

Someone apparently forgot to tell Jefferson that it was a 4-6 team. QB Zack Grossi was on his game Friday night, throwing for scores from 57 and 58 yards in the first half and adding a rushing touchdown to lead the Dragons to a 34-16 first-round win against Boca Ciega (8-3) in a game that was never close. ...more

LAKE PLACID –– After going through last season where goals were hard to come by, the Lake Placid boys soccer team erupted in Tuesday night's match against Avon Park. The Green Dragons, who improved to 1-1 on the season, scored early and often in cruising to a 5-0 win over the Red Devils at Roger Scarborough Memorial Field. "We had a good effort and scored a couple of quality goals," Lake Placid coach Josh Virkler said. "We stayed organized, got forward pretty fast and if it wasn't for an outstanding effort by the Avon Park goalie, we would have scored a bunch more. "Our guys needed that one game where we bagged a couple of goals and found out that they could score, because we lost a lot of close games last year because we couldn't put the ball in the back of the net." ...more
