HAINES CITY — After being upset in last Saturday's district finals, the Sebring girls basketball team made sure that didn't happen again, as Whitney Lee scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Blue Streaks to a 55-48 upset victory over District 9 champion Haines City in Thursday night's Class 4A regional quarterfinals. Senior forward Whitney Wells added eight points — all in the second half — to go along with eight rebounds, as Sebring moves on to Tuesday's regional semifinal at district rival Booker. "This is such a sweet win," Wells said. "Our team wanted this win so bad. We were all jumping around and screaming in the locker room because we were so happy. "We felt so bad after losing to Booker in the district finals that we were determined not to let our season end tonight." ...more

LAKE PLACID — Lee Tolar shook his head in awe of his girls' performance, and summed up his Sebring softball team in a nutshell. "We're only going to get better," the Blue Streak skipper said. Sebring, who methodically dismantled a gutsy Lake Placid squad in a 15-1 mercy-rule victory on Thursday, is already playing at a tournament level, and they're doing it without three key members of the team (Priscilla Adams, Chelsea Davis and Hannah Shoop). "It's nice to see that we're not getting off to a slow start," Tolar said. "These girls were just ready to play tonight. They're tired of practice and wanted to play. "We're hitting well, playing solid defense. Everything is on course, but we've got a good test in Frostproof coming up. We're just ready to go." ...more

SEBRING – Senior second baseman Sami Lower and pitcher Melissa Luke smiled and exchanged hi-fives with the sort of exuberance that carried across the field. "I love coming out to the field every day," Lower said. "There is a bond on this team that I believe gives us an edge over a lot of teams. We're always there to lift the other teammate up and give them that boost when they need it." ...more

SARASOTA — No championship is just handed to a team, and the Sebring girls basketball team seemingly tried to rest on its laurels of past tournament wins and almost saw their chance at a third-straight district championship slip away. Hannah Shoop's basket on a beautiful no-look pass by senior Whitney Lee with 1:07 to play ended a Blue-Streak scoring drought — which saw a 15-point lead dwindle to just four points — and lifted the Blue Streaks past the No. 4 seed Palmetto Tigers 52-44 in the semifinals of the Class 4A-District 10 tournament on Friday. ...more

BELLEVIEW –– Sebring's Brenita Grant may not have put up huge numbers in the stat column, but her play against the Gulf High Buccaneers on Saturday proved the difference in the Blue Streaks' 45-37 victory in the championship game of the Lady Rattlers Holiday Tournament. Down 34-29 heading into the final eight minutes, Sebring head coach Mike Lee decided to make a change. "We switched to man-to-man defense and that was a key to our win," Lee said. "[Brenita] shut down [Gulf's] guards. She played amazing for us." With her stellar defense, Grant helped the Streaks outscore Gulf 16-3 in the fourth for the win and earned tournament MVP honors. ...more

BELLEVIEW — A holiday treat. That's what the Sebring girls basketball team enjoyed by blasting Pine Ridge (Deltona) 41-29 in Thursday's first round of the Lady Rattlers Holiday Tournament. The Class 3A Blue Streaks improved to 11-4 on the season as Whitney Wells scored a team-high 12 points, while Chelsea Davis chipped in with eight points and Benita Grant added six. "Our defense was solid," said Sebring first-year coach Mike Lee. "We rebounded well and showed a lot of patience on offense." ...more

SEBRING — Facing the same Palmetto squad that started the Sebring girls basketball team's season off on a sour note, Blue Streak coach Mike Lee was looking for a little senior leadership. And it showed up just in time. Sebring scored eight of the game's final 10 points and got key buckets from seniors Chelsea Davis and Brenita Grant late on Tuesday to escape with a 50-44 Class 4A-District 10 victory over Palmetto. "We talked at halftime about the seniors stepping up and taking control," said Davis, who finished with 10 points. "We came together as a team in the last few minutes and really pushed it." ...more

BRADENTON — Senior Whitney Lee scored 11 points and seniors Brenita Grant and Chelsea Davis combined for 15 more Friday night, but poor shooting hampered the Sebring girls basketball team's effort in a 39-36 loss to Braden River. ...more

SEBRING — Hannah Shoop started feeling it just after halftime. And by the end of the Sebring girls basketball team's 55-51 Class 4A-District 10 victory over DeSoto, just walking out of the locker room was one sore chore. "My legs are really tired," said Shoop, who, along with the rest of the Sebring girls basketball team, spent much of Monday's practice running lines. ...more

SEBRING — Chelsea Davis isn't the focal point of the Sebring girls basketball team's offense. And, to be honest, she wouldn't have it any other way. The senior led the Blue Streaks with 11 points and six rebounds on Tuesday night as Sebring held off arch-rival Avon Park for a 37-30 Class 4A-District 10 victory at SHS. "My teammates did a great job spreading the floor and giving me space," said Davis, who hit three 3-pointers. "They open up shots for me." ...more
