SEBRING — People couldn't help but smile when they looked at Tonya Peterson on Thursday. With bright-colored feathers sticking out of her back, a wattle hanging from her mouth and a comb that swayed as she nodded her head, Peterson was playing the part of the turkey at the annual NU-HOPE Thanksgiving meal. "I bet you've never been hugged by a turkey before," she said as she greeted one of the senior citizens gathered to enjoy the traditional lunch. SEBRING –– Talk about perseverance. Herman Talbott has enjoyed playing golf for more than 50 years, but the athletic 91-year-old had never achieved the ultimate thrill of every golfer: A hole-in-one. That is until Oct. 5, when Talbott, who was playing in the Men's League, aced the par-3, 120-yard, fifth hole at Sebring Golf Club. Talbott, playing from the red tees, used a 3-wood on the 120-yard hole, and watched the ball land on the green, but didn't see it go in the hole. ...more

SEBRING — Give a 15-member troupe of actors some humorous lines and plenty of hats and you've got –– the Glad Hatters. The group of mostly elderly actors takes its act on the road to assisted living centers and any other group of theater fans, including the Lions clubs and Red Hatters. They sing, dance and perform skits –– all laced with plenty of humor. Their distinctive hats vary depending on changing themes. Wednesday, the banter was lively as senior actors rehearsed at Highlands Little Theatre. Spirited lyrics included, "There's no business like show business" and "I'm looking over a four leaf clover that I overlooked before." ...more
