OKEECHOBEE – Despite a valiant fourth-quarter comeback, the Avon Park boys basketball team fell to Okeechobee 57-55 on Saturday night in the Brahman gym. Early foul trouble forced the Red Devils to sit freshman Alonzo Robertson, who finished with 11 points, and Tim Dennis, who did a good job on the boards. AVON PARK –– Carelessness with the ball, as in 30 turnovers, proved too much to overcome for Avon Park in Saturday night's 56-47 loss to Okeechobee in boys basketball. The Red Devils, who were coming off a disappointing district loss to DeSoto on Friday night, got a game-high 19 points by sophomore center Cleveland Nobles, but the lack of an outside shooting threat hurt Avon Park in the second half. The loss dropped the Class 4A Red Devils to 0-6. "It's real frustrating because we've played well enough to win, but we haven't been able to finish games," Nobles said. AVON PARK — It may have been a long holiday weekend, but Avon Park used a suffocating defense and a balanced offense to make short work of Okeechobee by a score of 67-31 in girls basketball on Saturday night. The Class 4A Red Devils, who improved to 3-1 with the win, used their athleticism and quickness to force 23 Brahman turnovers to break the non-district game open in the second half. "We played our game tonight," junior guard Daija Barrett said. "We played as a team, ran the floor well and played as one. SEBRING — Okeechobee scored three goals minutes into the second half, as the Brahmans defeated the Sebring Blue Streaks 4-3 in boys soccer action at Firemen's Field on Tuesday. Nick Peters scored the first goal for Sebring to tie the score at one heading into the locker room at halftime. "I thought we played pretty well in the first half," said SHS coach Paul Brown.
