Each month, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 139 sends 25 CARE boxes to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The American Legion, SAL and Auxiliary Post 139 pack and prepare the boxes and pay the postage. All supplies are donated by members of American Legion, Auxiliary, senior ladies groups and through private donations. ...more

It is hard for me to imagine anyone complaining about not getting a good night's sleep because of planes flying and disturbing her peaceful night's rest. Does she think the young men and women in Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries around the world are getting a good night's rest? It is better to have planes flying than bombs dropping. I for one would be happy to give her a set of ear plugs. My son spent 23 years in the Air wing of the U.S. Marine Corps. I had many sleepless nights wondering if he would return safe and sound. We missed many celebrations during that period of time but he was doing what he wanted for himself and his country. ...more

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 69 and Florida Hospital wish to thank all of the ladies who brought baked goods to the bake sale held on Sept. 19 at the hospital to benefit the Josh Puppy Program. The Josh Puppy is a stuffed soft plush golden retriever that comes with a dog house and a book titled "I'll be okay." The Josh Puppy is given to every sick child from ages 1-12 years old. ...more

It was with much pleasure that I received a thank you e-mail from Col. James Purvis, saying how thankful he was of the five boxes full of goodies that our American Legion Auxiliary Unit 69 had sent to the troops. Purvis further said that he would see that his forward units, who don't get much mail, got the boxes and that only someone who has served in the military would know the full impact of what the boxes mean. Purvis is the son of Gayle Purvis Nyburg and brother of Lt. Jess Purvis with the sheriff's office. ...more
