LAKE PLACID — "This is the way you want to end your career," said Lake Placid girls soccer head coach Liz Sottile after hearing the news of her latest coaching milestone. After leading the Green Dragons to the Class 3A-District 8 runner-up trophy — the first trophy for LP girls soccer under her tutelage — Sottile was named District 8 Coach of the Year by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association. The FHSAA released a report Friday stating the organization will address bacterial issues in high school sports. The organization announced Friday it has signed a contract with CSG/SportsCoatings that will provide antimicrobial products and treatments for its 748 FHSAA member schools. ...more

Maureen Colligan, Holy Names, Sr., Outside hitter Colligan, who has committed to Colgate University, faced some of the top teams in Florida, which included Class 6A state champion Gainesville Buchholz, 1A champ Bayshore Christian, and state final-four teams Berkeley Prep (3A), Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (5A) and Durant (6A) and still ended the season with 314 kills, 161 digs and 38 blocks. ...more
