I have always believed the price of fuel would come down if we would just go ahead and drill for it. One political party says, "It will take 10 years to get any results from drilling." I read these letters complaining about the high cost of gasoline. People condemn the oil companies and refiners. However, their raw material cost is high to begin with (whatever the market is bringing) and refining it into gasoline is not cost free. On the other hand, this country sits on enough oil to sustain it for a century or more. Why don't we use it? Well, the environmentalists ban drilling for it in the far northern, frozen, uninhabitable area of Alaska's north shore. The state of Forida bans drilling in the Gulf, as it might damage their beaches. There is a price for everything, and in my view, the high price of gasoline is the price we pay for satisfying the objectors. ...more
