River Greens offering Get Golf Ready in 5 Days
AVON PARK River Greens is offering a Get Golf Ready in 5 Days program between May 11 and May 21. SEBRING The 28th annual Blue Streak Golf Classic will take place on May 7 at Sun 'N Lake Golf Course. Both the Turtle Run and Deer Run courses will be used. The tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
The event is one of the main fundraisers for Sebring Firemen Inc., which raises funds to support Sebring athletics. The cost is $60 per person and includes one mulligan, lunch, beverages, cart, green fees, range balls and more.

AVON PARK The South Florida Community College Panthers will honor the memory of Coach Dunning Terrell on Monday, April 25, before the start of the baseball game against State College of Florida. Terrell was the first coach in school history and coached basketball and baseball between 1966 and 1974.

Highlands Youth Football, Cheer fundraiser
SEBRING The Highlands Youth Football and Cheer Organization (HYF) will be having a Car Wash fundraiser at Advanced Auto Parts at the corner of US 27 and the Sebring Parkway on April 9 and April 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All monies earned or donated will be used to purchase equipment and uniforms for the boys and girls. HYF is a new league to Sebring and is looking forward to providing a rewarding youth sports program to foster these boys and girls to develop sportsmanship, physical fitness and build their self esteem as well as provide them an opportunity to be part of a team. The team name is the "Highlands Eagles" and team colors are black, yellow and white. HYF will also be offering registration during our car wash for cheerleaders and football players. Any registered player that needs to turn in registration information or payment can come to the car wash to do so. Several of our coaches and board members will be there to meet or answer any questions you may have. This league is for ages 5 - 15 years old. AVON PARK South Florida Community College is offering a two-day fun camp in which participants are able to choose the activity of their liking. Possible choices include beach volleyball, basketball, softball, baseball, soccer, pool activities or the fitness center.
The camp takes place Thursday, June 9 and Friday, June 10, between 9 and 3 p.m. Lunch will be included.
The morning session will include stretching, strength and flexibility, arm and body care and an introduction to the fitness center. Following lunch, campers will be able to choose their activity.

Nick Sottile Memorial Golf Tournament
LAKE PLACID The Lake Placid Athletic Association's (LPAA) Annual Nick Sottile Memorial Golf Tournament will tee-off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Placid Lakes Country Club. The event is a four-person scramble with cash prizes for the winning teams in each flight.
Golfers can win hole-in-one prizes at four holes as well as closest-to-pin prizes and other great gifts. This tournament is famous for its spectacular post-game meal that features a feast of culinary delights including jumbo shrimp, pulled pork, BBQ chicken and all the accoutrements, several dessert choices and beverages.

Bill Jarrett Ford is the tournament's lead sponsor for the fifth consecutive year, but more sponsors are needed. Sponsorship ranges from $50 hole-sponsors to $1,000 corporate sponsors. Lunch tickets are included with most sponsorship levels.
Proceeds from this tournament directly benefit youth sports in Lake Placid and the Nick Sottile Memorial Scholarship Fund. Sottile was the Florida Highway Patrol Trooper and "hometown hero" who was killed in the line of duty in January, 2007. LPAA commemorates his service and remembers his sacrifice through this tournament.

Avon Park Mall Festival 5K
AVON PARK The 26th annual Avon Park Mall Festival 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for March 25 at the old Armory Building at 6 p.m. The unique "night moves" run is new this year.
"We thought an early evening run would be a wonderful way to kick off the AP Mall Festival celebration," said race director Chet Brojek.

AVON PARK The Michigan Moose Assoction is holding its 19th annual Snowbird Golf tournament on Sunday, March 13, at River Greens Golf Course in Avon Park. The tournament is a mixed scramble and you do have to be a Moose member to play. The registration deadline is March 8.

Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament
LAKE PLACID The 17th annual Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will take place March 26 with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at Placid Lakes Country Club. The cost is $75 per player and includes golf, continental breakfast, lunch, prizes and raffle tickets.
Teams will be flighted by handicap and receive 20 percent of total handicap. Each team must use at least two drives per player.

SPRING LAKE The 5th annual James McFarling Golf Tournament will take place Saturday, March 5, at Spring Lake Golf Resort. Proceeds from the tournament will be awarded to scholarship recipients from the Sertoma Junior Golf tour.

Heartland Soccer Club seeking players
SEBRING The Heartland Soccer Club is looking for players to play 3-on-3 soccer between March 5 and May 14. Games will alternate between Lake Wales Soccer Park and Mary Holland Park in Bartow. Practices are not mandatory, but are encouraged, and times and places will be determined by team coaches.
The cost is $50 for new players and includes FYSA registration fees or $40 for FYSA players from the fall.
Games are for players age 10 through 18 and a copy of birth certificate is required. The final day to register is Feb. 12.

LAKE PLACID The 13th annual Greater Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce Bass Tournament will take place Sunday, March 27, at Lake Istokpoga, Windy Point Ramp in Lake Placid. The tournament is a two-person team format.
The cost is $100 per team and includes a $10 Big Bass fee.
Boats will take off in the order in which they are entered, so early entry is advised.
Fishing will take place from safe light to 2:30 p.m. and boats must be in the basin prior to designated return time or they will be disqualified.

SEBRING Wings of Faith Christian Worship Center is holding its first annual golf tournament at the Country Club of Sebring on April 16. Check-in is 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. and a shotgun start will take place at 8:30 a.m.
The tournament is a four-person scramble and fees are $60 per player until March 26 and $70 per player afterwards. Entry fee includes green fees, cart and lunch and proceeds will be donated to the Wings of Faith scholarship program.
