Offense rules in Dixie Minors

Lewis Chiropractic and Highlands Independent Bank faced off in Dixie Minors (ages 9-10) baseball action at Max Long Recreational Complex.

Lewis Chiropractic got its offense rolling early and cruised to a 17-4 mercy-rule win.

Lewis Chiropractic put up three runs in the top of the first inning with Trey Lewis, Jace Lewis and Everret Hurst all scoring.

Dayvon Terry was on the mound for Lewis Chiropractic and Highlands Independent's Jan Martinez drew a walk, stole second base and scored on a Lance High fielder's choice ground out to trim Highlands Independent Bank's deficit to 3-1 after one inning of play.

Lewis Chiropractic kept the offensive pressure on in the top of the second inning as Emmett Beasley and Derek Center both motored home to give Lewis a 5-1 lead.

Hurst hit a hard shot up the middle for a leadoff single in the top of the third inning, stole second, advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a run-scoring single by Jorge Martinez.

Brenden Melvin followed with an RBI triple to plate Martinez and Melvin. Devon Griffin, Trace Leadingham and Morgan Dalke all came around to score to give Lewis Chiropractic a commanding lead.

Bank rallies

Highlands Independent struck back as Justin Bickman, Robert Prendergast and Austin Whiddon all scored to trim the Bank's deficit to 12-4 after three innings of play.

Lewis Chiropractic made sure that Highlands Independent Bank didn't mount a comeback as Jace Lewis roped a single, stole second base, moved to third base on a wild pitch and raced home on a wild throw to second base.

Dayvon Terry drew a walk, stole second base, advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single by Hurst.

Hurst trotted home after Jorge Martinez walked with the bases loaded, Trace Leadingham was hit by a pitch to score Terry and Melvin scored to increase Lewis Chiropractic's lead to 17-4.

Lewis Chiropractic held off Highlands Independent in the bottom of the fourth inning to win the game by the 10-run mercy rule.
