Habitat "Golf FORE Homes" Tournament
SEBRING Highlands County Habitat for Humanity is hosting their annual "Golf FORE Homes" golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 18, on the new greens at Country Club of Sebring. Registration is at 7:30 a.m. with shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Four-man teams will be flighted by handicap. Entry fee includes goodie bags, prizes, snacks on the course, and lunch and awards following play. Complimentary reception and practice round for all players the evening before on Friday, Sept. 17. $2,000 hole-in-one sponsored by Cohan Radio Group and a chance to win a brand new vehicle sponsored by Alan Jay Automotive Network. SEBRING The Sebring Baseball Dixie Ozone state champions are hosting a golf tournament on Saturday, July 24th at Harder Hall Country Club. The format is a four-person scramble and the tournament starts at 8 a.m. The proceeds go to the Sebring Ozone state champions to help defray their expenses to the Dixie Ozone World Series in South Carolina. SEBRING Registration for GOLS Indoor Soccer Camp is Saturday, Aug. 21 from 9 a.m. until noon at First Baptist Church of Avon Park. Sign-ups will take place in the Family Life Center (old Avon Park Recreation Center across from the tennis courts downtown Avon Park.) The GOLS Indoor Soccer Camp is $12 and open to boys and girls 9 to 12 years old. Registration is limited to the first 32 players to sign up. Camp is seven evenings at 6:30 p.m. between Aug. 30 and Sept. 10. GOLS (Goals Of Life & Soccer) is starting its eighth year as a ministry of First Baptist Church of Avon Park. Participants learn soccer and team skills from certified coaches. Indoor soccer is a valuable experience for improving passing and shooting skills. SEBRING The American Cancer Society is holding the Hometown Justice American Cancer Relay For Life Golf tournament at Pinecrest Golf Club on Aug. 14. The tournament is a four-person scramble with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Highlands Independent Bank/Sertoma tournament
SEBRING The 33rd annual Highlands Independent Bank/Sertoma Golf Tournament will take place on Aug. 28-29 at the Sun 'N Lake Country Club. Both courses will be used for the two-day event.
This years' tournament will continue with the two-man team best ball on Saturday and a two-man team scramble on Sunday format.
Cost of the tournament is $145 or $195 for any golfer who wishes to attend Saturday night's Sertoma Luau. One guest is permitted to the luau.

HCBA Day/Night Tournament
SEBRING The Highlands County Builders Association's Day/Night Tournament will take place July 24 at Sun 'N Lake Country Club. The tournament is a four-person scramble format.
There will be a 5:30 p.m. shotgun start for the first nine, with an 8:30 p.m. shotgun start for the final nine holes, which will be played with glow balls. Sign-in begins at 5 p.m.

Sebring Youth Learn to Swim
SEBRING The Sebring High School Pool is offering a variety of options to stay cool this summer. The pool is open to public swimmers Monday through Friday from 1-4 p.m. and 6:30-8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Admission into the pool is $2 for adults and children. Patrons may also purchase a family pass for $50, add an additional family member for $15 each. SEBRING The 11th annual Sebring Firemen Memorial Classic will be held on Aug. 14 at Sun 'N Lake Country Club.
Registration will take place beginning at 7:30 a.m. and the tournament will begin with a cannon start at 8:30 p.m. The tournament is a four-person scramble.
The entry fee is $75 and also includes golf cart, one mulligan, range balls and prizes. Food and beverages will be provided on the course.

AVON PARK The Avon Park swimming pool will begin offering lessons on June 21 between 9 a.m. and noon. The cost of a two-week class is $45 and all ages are welcome from 6 months to adults.

Lake Placid swim lessons
LAKE PLACID Lake Placid has begun its summer pool lessons. Lessons are scheduled in five-day blocks beginning on Mondays and ending on Fridays.
For the weeks of July 26-30; and Aug. 2-6 levels 1-5 will take place between 9 and 9:50 a.m.; levels 1-3, Mom and Tot and preschool aquatics will take place between 10 and 10:50 a.m.; levels 1-3 and preschool aquatics take place between 11 and 11:50 a.m.; and levels 1-3, levels 5-6, Mom and Tot and Adult Beginner will take place between 5:10 and 6 p.m.
Open swimming takes place between 1 and 4 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, with a 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. session on Monday through Friday. Admission is $2 or a season-long pass may be purchased for $50 for individuals and $150 for families.
SHS cheerleading clinic
SEBRING The Sebring High School cheerleading clinic is set for Aug. 2-6 from 3-5 p.m. in the Sebring gym. There will be a clinic ending pep rally on Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m. The clinics are for ages 4 years to eighth grade.

SEBRING Golf Hammock teaching professional Nell Frewin-Hays will be offering Business Women's golf clinics twice a month throughout the summer. Designed for the working female golfer, clinics will feature instruction plus an opportunity for a short round of golf following the class.
Cost for the clinic is $12. per player including range balls. Clinics will cover basic golf skills and are open to all levels of players from beginners to advanced. For an additional $5, participants can play 5 holes with cart following the lesson.

Basic training class

Heartland Soccer offers program
SEBRING The Heartland Soccer Club is offering a soccer skills enhancement program for prospective boy and girl players ages 11 through 18.
The program runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the rearmost soccer field at the County Complex off Highlands Avenue in Sebring. Well-known British soccer coach and technical director Paul Brown will guide the players through a series of key drills and scrimmages. The drills and scrimmages are designed to develop or improve the vital defensive, ball handling, dribbling, and passing skills necessary for effective play at the recreation league, middle school, and high school level. The cost is only $20 to those who want to develop or improve their skills and $50 for those who also want to play in the upcoming 3-on-3 tournament in Lake Wales and Bartow.
The program will continue through the summer until the fall/winter soccer season.
