In Dixie Youth Minors (9-10) action Tuesday night, Bassett Electronics defeated Highlands Independent Bank 15-3 in a mercy-rule-shortened game.

Bassett Electronics came out of the gates roaring, scoring Seth and Scott Hamilton, Dalton Baker and Hunter Martinez in the first inning. After getting three strikeouts, Highlands Independent got out of the inning, holding Bassett to four runs.

Robert Spoone drew a walk to start the inning, and Justin Bickman then hit into a fielder's choice. Jack Spoone hit a double and moved Bickman to third, before Robert Prendergast drew a walk to load the bases.

Lance High drew a walk, scoring a run, and Spoone scored because he was walked in, as well. After getting two strikeouts the inning ended, as Highlands cut Bassett's lead to one, 4-3.

Brandon Dixon drew a walk and stole second to start the second inning. Jaden Bareno also drew a walk to put a man on first and second, before Dixon and Bareno stole third and second, respectively, on a wild pitch.

Seth Hamilton drew a walk to load the bases. Scott Hamilton then stepped up to the plate and smashed the ball into the right-field corner for an inside-the-park grand slam. The first baseman for Highlands Independent snagged a hard-hit ball to end the inning, but the score was 8-3 after the top of the second.

Spoone singled to start off the bottom of the second, and Bickman hit a hard shot up the middle. They both stole third and second, respectively, on a passed ball. But the Bassett defense was too much and held Highlands Independent from scoring any more runs this inning - and for the rest of the game.

Justin Bickman stepped on the rubber for Highlands Independent in the top of the third inning. Hunter Martinez drew a walk and stole his way around to third. Charles Jolly stole second after he drew a walk. Martinez stole home on a wild pitch, and Jolly stole third. Jolly would be tagged out at the plate while trying to steal home.

Hunter Jolly was hit by a pitch and took his base, stole second on a wild pitch and an overthrow to third, and then stole home and scored. The inning ended with Bassett scoring two more, putting it at 10.

Griffin Aaron and Seth Hamilton drew walks to start off the fourth inning, and Scott Hamilton hit an infield single to load the bases. Dalton Baker then smashed a three-run triple and scored on an overthrow to the catcher to give Bassett another four runs, making it 15-3.

Bassett would hold off Highlands Independent Bank from scoring any runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, putting the 10-run mercy rule into effect and ending the game.
