Bassett, Lewis pick up victories in Dixie Minors

Bassett Electronics defeated Sun 'n Lake Golf Club 14-6 in Thursday night's Dixie Youth Minors (9-10) action at the Max Long Recreational Complex.

The top of the first inning started with Carson Angell on the mound for Sun 'n Lake.

Scott Hamilton and Dalton Baker both reached safely on two hard singles up the middle. Hamilton then stole third, and then came home on a wild pitch, putting Bassett on the board 1-0.

Hunter Martinez hit a hard fly into the right-field corner, giving him an RBI triple. A few pitches later, Martinez stole home on a wild pitch, putting Bassett up 3-0. Clint Patrick lined a hit into the right-field corner for an inside-the-park home run.

Martinez would take the rubber for Bassett to start the bottom of the first. Wade Gilbert drew a fourth consecutive walk for Sun 'n Lake, putting a run on the board and trimming its deficit to 3-1. On a wild pitch Danny Cordosa stole home and the other runners advanced a base. Bassett's Scott Hamilton came in to relieve Martinez on the mound, and the inning ended with Bassett still leading by a score of 3-2.

The top of the second inning was quiet, with Angell getting three quick strikeouts, bringing his total to four.

Sun 'n Lake's Brooke Turner drew a walk, stole her way around the bases and scored one more in the second inning. bringing the score to 4-3. Logan Gregis stepped up as pitcher for Sun 'n Lake in the third.

Hamilton drew a walk, stole second, and, on an error made by the first baseman, a ground ball to the second baseman turned into a RBI triple for Dalton Baker, who later scored. Charles Jolly hit a hard groundball to short, and on an overthrow to first, made it all the way to third, and on the next pitch stole home on a wild pitch.

Clint Patrick laid down a bunt and on an overthrow to first made it all the way around the bags, stretching Bassett's lead to three. Hunter Jolly stole second on a wild pitch and on an overthrow to second stole third and home, making the score 9-3

To start the top of the fourth, Tanner Tuck put a bunt down the third-base line, and after an overthrow to first, made it all the way around to second. Tuck stole third on a wild pitch. Jaden Bareno stole home on a wild pitch, stretching Bassett's lead to seven.

In the bottom of the fourth, AJ drew a walk and stole his way around the bags to score on a wild pitch, giving Sun 'n Lake four runs.

Scott Hamilton drew a walk in the top of the fifth, Dalton Baker hit an RBI triple to deep right-center field, scoring Hamilton, and Hunter Martinez hit an RBI single to score Baker. Charles Jolly hit a two-RBI, inside-the-park home run. This made the score 14-6.

Dalton Baker made a huge double play in the bottom of the fourth by catching the ball and tagging second base before the runner could tag up. The game ended after the two-hour time limit expired.

Lewis Chiropractic defeats Heartland National Bank

After the first game wrapped up, Heartland National and Lewis Chiropractic took the field. Lewis won 12-2 after the two-hour time limit expired.

Josh Rivera took the mound for Highlands Independent. On the first pitch, Trent Lewis hit a hard single, stole second base, and on an infield single by Jace Lewis, made it to first and Trent to third. But on a grounder to the shortstop, Jace was forced out at second, but a run was driven in, putting the first run of the game on the board. Dayvon Terry stole his way around the bags and then home, while Everett Hurst stole third. After two walks, Hurst stole home for Lewis, their second run of the game, ending the inning 2-0, with Lewis ahead.

Terry gained another strikeout in the second inning, putting his total up to three.

Emily Bible took the mound for Highlands Independent in the bottom of the third inning. Trent Lewis drew a walk to start of the third inning for Lewis Chiropractic, and stole his way around the bases. Jace Lewis drew a walk, and Dayvon Terry hit an RBI triple to deep left field, putting Lewis up six runs. Hurst scores Terry on an RBI single. Everett Hurst stole his way around the bases, adding another run to Lewis Chiropractic's total.

Emily Bible drew a walk for Heartland National to try and get a rally started. Bible stole second and third. Bible stole home, putting Highlands Independent on the board. Josh Rivera followed her lead and drew a walk and stole second and third on passed balls. But it was not enough.
