Taking full advantage of benign conditions, the four-person team of Andrew Katsanis, Elgin Bayless, Eric Moore and Terry Hancock breezed to a three-stroke win in the first flight of the Greater Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce golf tournament on Thursday afternoon.
The foursome's 18-hole gross score of 54 (51.4 net) at Placid Lakes Country Club was three shots lower than the second-place team of Harry Gregor, Mike Chapman, Bryan Chapman and Ron Chapman, who combined to card a 57 (51.9 net).
Bill Kurek, Bruce Davison, Dan Butler and Sam Boone took home top honors in the second flight, shooting a gross score of 61 (net 50.8). That edged out the second-place foursome of Jeff Brewington, Paul McGehee, Bill Segert and Vic Lancaster, who combined to fire a gross score of 59 (net 52.2).
Daren Sapp boomed the longest drive on the par-4 fourth hole, which measures 390 yards from the white tees.
Fifty-six golfers teed it up during the 17th annual event, which featured an 18-hole round with a shotgun start, awards, and all team members received a raffle ticket to win door prizes.
